Since when can a feature film become an art installation? When you combine a noir story, pitch-perfect acting, nuance-rich cinematography; and perhaps most importantly for the installation angle, Carter Burwell's career-making soundtrack. And when you watch it within our four walls with our new, improved, repaired sound system, you will see and hear with new ears/eyes. Blood Simple (1984) we salute you! All month, every Monday and Wednesday at 11pm.

And yes, we love The Big Lebowski too; but, this is not a bowling alley. This is four-screen cinema at its finest. And that shouldn't stop you from smoking before you arrive.

We have a special fondness for negative reviews of brilliant films, music, etc. Pauline Kael (the eminent New Yorker reviewer) did NOT buy the Coen Brothers' game...

The film received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response, and currently holds a 98% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One of the few bad reviews came from Pauline Kael, who accused it of emphasizing style over content: "The reason the camera whoop-de-do is so noticeable is that there’s nothing else going on. The movie doesn’t even seem meant to have any rhythmic flow; the Coens just want us to respond to a bunch of 'touches' on routine themes."

Why is she so entirely off-base here? She is missing the non-point. It's as if her narrative ear, eyes, and nose had calcified. It's really remarkable how clueless the New Yorker critics have been over the years, current crop included.

Seriously, don't even bother to watch the trailer, just come...
