Paul Wallfisch:
Paul Wallfisch has toured North America & Europe since the dawn of time, as well as making concert and TV appearances in Guinea, Indonesia and China. In Paris he studied classical piano by day while playing with Stiv Bators by night, as well as recording or performing with a parade of French people from Johnny Halliday & Jean-Louis Aubert to Anne Pigalle & Jad Wio. In Los Angeles from 1992-’99, Paul recorded Frenchette with Syl Sylvain, Joined Kid Congo Powers & Sally Norvell in Congo Norvell, and was a producer/partner in Jive Studio, where he worked with Love & Rockets, Jon Brion, Gene Loves Jezebel, Pilar Stupa, and many more. Paul spent nearly seven years playing keyboards and dancing the Hora with Tod A's Firewater. Paul regularly performs with Angela McCluskey; is the long-time writing and touring partner of alt-cabaret diva Little Annie, and is much in demand as piano man about town. His band Botanica has toured Europe eight times, including playing sold-out theatres in five countries supporting 16 Horsepower, as well as major festival and TV appearances. Botanica's fifth album, The Magnetic Waltz, was released to rave reviews in May 2007 and the live album, americanundone, the band's first U.S. release of the 21st century will be available on vinyl in March 2009 (Devil's Ruin/Bloodshot).

In addition to the 2 instruments with whom he's pictured in the photos above, Paul will bring other noisemakers, both animate and in-, to his Monkeytown debut; as well as accompanying video premieres by Pat Arnao.

“…trafficing in sonic noir with an undercurrent of sinewy menace…sinister sophisticates providing the perfect soundtrack to the after-hours, urban experience.”
~The New Yorker
“Paul Wallfisch is simply a phenomenon. A jawdropping performer solo at the piano, or celebrating pop with his band Botanica, it’s always a unique experience.“
~Westzeit, Cologne, Germany
"...the sonic equivalent of an Aki Kaurismaki film..."
~Intro, Germany

Marianne Dissard:

WORDS:
Chanson et Americana... between Southwestern noir and acoustic French pop, "L'Entredeux", the 'in-between', is Marianne Dissard's lush and enchanting debut album. Produced, composed and performed by Calexico's Joey Burns, with stellar contributions by friends from both continents, including John Convertino, Naïm Amor, Rob Burger, Mickey Raphael, Sammy Decoster, it was released worldwide in the Fall 2008 and Marianne has been touring since.

"Cet album est une des merveilles de l'année" Magic/France "Pick of the Week: The surprise is Dissard. While she's collaborated occasionally with others, she's currently recording her debut solo album, Entre Deux, with songs co-written by producer Joey Burns of Calexico. Her work has a lovely, mournful lilt, a sort of Parisian blues. Even those of us who don't speak French cannot help but be touched by the stark beauty of her phrasing." LA Weekly/USA "There is little to say here; if you don't fall in love with her from the moment she says hello, then you will have done by the time she finishes the first line of her first song, and if you're not melting by then, you have a swinging brick instead of a soul. You might as well just admit that you listen to M People. For 25 minutes the music gave the sensation of when you have that half glass too much of red wine. The same kind of ache you get from Lambchop or Alice by Tom Waits- yet sounding like neither of them." Mitch & Murray/UK "An album of splendid beauty that marks the metamorphosis of a sublimely creative soul into a true artist" Santa Barbara Independent/USA
