Monkey Town is pleased to present Brooklyn Is Burning, an eclectic night of video and performance by emerging and established artists on January 31, 2009 at 10pm. Due to its success last year, curators Andres Bedoya and Sarvia Jasso have organized another exciting program for Context Video featuring work that explores gender, sexuality and the body. Whether they are defying normative categories, exploring the unconventional, or simply arousing your curiosity, these artists are radically changing our notions of sex today.

Videos include San Francisco's Tammy Rae Carland's images of women juxtaposed with images of destruction, New York-based Kathryn Garcia's video montage of porn and pop culture entitled "sit on my face" and nineteen year old Londoner Theo Adams' dance-cum-performance video set to Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You. Coupled with several live performances throughout the night, including Rosa Teresa, Nicole Kornegay and Rashaad Newsome, the program will utilize Monkey Town's unique multi-channel video capabilities.

Participating artists include: Theo Adams, Andres Bedoya, Cara Benedetto, Rachel R Blackwell, Tammy Rae Carland, Morty Diamond, Corinne Dolle aka Coco, Fritz Donnelly, Ruthie Doyle, Zackary Drucker, Monica Elkelv, Kathryn Garcia, Jewrel Gainey, Amy von Harrington, Nicole Kornegay, Lennie Lee, Tara Mateik, Ben McCoy, Divya Mehra, Rashaad Newsome, Gilad Ratman, Natalie Rodgers, Scottee, Bec Stupak, Rosa Teresa, Wu Ingrid Tsang, Tobaron Waxman with Moritz Wettstein, plus many more…

Several surprises throughout the night, plus DJ Destroy All Genres on the turntables until the sun comes up.
