Nick Hallett (of Plantains and Maison du Chic) brings together an exciting survey of recent NYC art rock videos. The re-identification of psychedelic themes is the evening's focus, along with an exploration of countercultural media, including documentary, video mash-up, computer animation, and "commercial" music video.

Time Out New York says, "An evening of music videos from the local scene—the good local scene. In keeping with the tenor of the times, the emphasis will be on psychedelic themes (whoa, the lights)."

Flavorpill says, "Like a mini-RESFEST for the art rock set, this program explores the re-emergence of psychedelia through music videos and documentary."

Expect music by bands that push the audio-culture envelope, lots of dayglo colors, electronic sounds, strobe effects (epileptics beware...or rejoice!), animations of the "stop" and "flash" varieties, documents of realness, and a few "commercial" music videos as well.

For this Monkey Town screening, we will be premiering the new Roxy Pain video, plus screening new work by Against Nature, Grizzly Bear, and, from the soon-to-be-released Starter Set DVD (Kill Rock Stars), "Senior Picture," featuring music by Aaron Hemphill (Liars), Emily Manzo, and Jarrett Silberman (Young People)….
