If you thought you knew what Norwegian folk hymns for saxophone and bass sounded like, you should come on down tonight. Originally from Oppdal, Norway - Ingebrigt was brought up singing these psalms with his grandmother, now he plays them with fellow free jazzer Håkon Kornstad. Flaten and Kornstad released their first cd "Elise" in November. It was listed "best of 2008" by both Allaboutjazz and Village Voice, and has received praise in Europe. The cd isn't available in the States, so be sure to grab one after the show.

In the second set Kornstad (tenor sax, flutes, flutonette and loop-machine) will be joined by guitarist Brandon Seabrook and Christine Bard on drums/percussion, playing Kornstad's material. Layered saxophone and sound stretches blends in with melodic free jazz.
