Brooklyn instrumental duo Åsten opens the show with their low-key ambient drone music. Comprised of a cello and an acoustic guitar, Åsten's sleepy but complex arrangement brilliantly set the tone for "Ugly (Is a Movie)", a work-in-progress 16mm film from filmmaker Jason Ryan. The film tells the story of Lynden Black (Samuel Suver), a young artist struggling to make a connection with his beautiful neighbor, Rose White (Amber Hubert of "We Go Way Back"). Shot in gorgeous black and white, "Ugly (Is a Movie)" combines influences and inspirations ranging from Jean Luc-Godard, Stan Brakhage and heavy metal. Proceeds from tonight's screening of completed footage will be put towards the film's completion funds. Closing out the night is the art dance duo, Donkey Flamingo who will be playing their brand of bouncy, angular dance music. Projected behind Donkey Flamingo will be 4 brand new video pieces from "Ugly (Is a Movie)" director Jason Ryan, who will be in attendance.
