Attending Service is a video poem. It is about the isolation that occurs in the lives of the immigrant women that work as bathroom attendants. Created from interviews with real bathroom attendants and then fictionalized in order create a performance, the video acts a filter, a mask, a layer that gives a heightened awareness into a world that one rarely takes notice of. It is essentially exploring boundaries of class and it's relationship to immigrant identity. The bathroom acts as a container, as a stage that encourages the viewer to see that which is unseen and hear the unheard voices of those who work and exist within the margins of society. As a performance Attending Service strives to expose the interior lives of workers who are very rarely noticed yet whose stories are layered in their complexity.
