Garden of Verses: An Evening of Cinematic Seeds and Mordant Vines

From archival snips of an educational film on the weather to cine poems in full blossom, Mark Street and Lynne Sachs glean audio-visual crops from the dust of their fertile and fallow imaginations. In this avalanche of visual ruminations on nature's topsy-turvy shakeup of our lives, Street and Sachs ponder a city child's tentative excavation of the urban forest, winter wheat, and the great American deluge of the 21st Century (so far). Agricultural relics and small works of farm-cycle literature provided free to tonight's audience.

Lynne Sachs whittles together experimental and documentary films, installations and web projects. Most recently she threw herself into an interactive web site for the NY Public Library that gave her the chance to explore all the boroughs of New York City – searching for the strange, haunting and delightful secrets of the big apple. You can see and play with this evolving artwork at at www.nypl.org/abecedariumnyc.

Mark Street has been making movies and media mayhem for 25 years. He's shot on streetcorners in Africa, at the Fulton Fish Market, and bent over 35mm film spraypainting and scraping the emulsion off the film. The images he comes up with are a mix of the surreal and unsettling, and transport the viewer to the edge of the unexpected.
