“"At that period of my life, I had no personal defenses. I felt like a cellophane wrapper on a pack of cigarettes. I felt like I had absolutely no secrets from the world"
--- Joni Mitchell

“"Say what you are. Not what you would like to be. Not what you have to be. Just say what you are. And what you are is good enough."
--- John Cassavetes

Favoring verité over virtuosity, the videos collected in Nakedly are simple works that bare their own devices, bodies and/or souls. Several of the works shown in the program are brand new and have never been shown publicly before.

The program was inspired in part by a Joni Mitchell performance I saw on You Tube recently. The performance is just Joni sitting there singing the song “"California"” accompanied by a dulcimer she strums in her lap. It looks to be sometime in the 70s. She is performing the song on The Johnny Cash Show. It moved me because it seemed, as she has commented herself, without defenses, just letting it all hang out. At the end of the song, she repeats the phrase “"Will you take me as I am?"” over and over, hitting soulful high notes that make my eyes water up.

The videos in the program comprise a meandering mix of misty-eyed moments, awkwardness, experiments, humor, vulnerability, longing, sensuality, personal revelation and nudity.

Please come as you are.
