Art Hijack, which for three years had consisted of just Trong
G. Nguyen and Elana Rubinfeld, abruptly took a detour when the
artists separately and simultaneously fired one another in February
2006. In letters mailed to themselves and collectors, each claimed
to be searching for the other’s replacement. A call for
resumes via email, Craigslist and NYFA Classifieds took place.
Hundreds applied, and six finalists were chosen. Last December,
at various locations in Miami’s South Beach, the six were
filmed and interviewed.
Recently it was announced that artists-curators Eric Doeringer
and Renee Vara were successfully hired as the art collective's
second coming. Working completely independent of their predecessors,
Art Hijack version 2.0 will nonetheless have total access to all
the Art Hijack archives, projects, collection, and credentials.
This evening will see a screening of the video interviews, an
inauguration ceremony symbolizing the official transfer of power
from Nguyen/Rubinfeld to Doeringer/Vara, and a few surprises to
end the evening in proper splendor.
