Each Sunday in December we will present a radio show and
two documentaries:
This American Life
(6pm)
Each week Ira Glass and company choose a theme and then
invite people to tell stories related to that theme. He's
been doing this for over 10 years. And we're still listening.
And we thought it might be nice to listen to this together.
Each week will be presented with semi-related visuals.
admission: FREE no reservations necessary, except for parties of
8 or more.
Hands
on a Hardbody(7:30pm)
A free pick-up truck goes to the person who is able
to keep their hand on a truck the longest. Hands on
a Hardbody (1997) chronicles an East Texas auto dealership's
annual endurance contest. It's They
Shoot Horses, Don't They? for our times. It's
like watching a demented beauty pageant judged soley by
human exhaustion. And yes, Ms. Fonda, they do. But in this
film, they don't.
Duration: 94 minutes
admission: FREE no reservations necessary, except for parties of
8 or more.
The
White Diamond
(10pm) This was one of our favorite films
of the past year. Much like the documentaries he's made
throughout his career, Herzog is interested in the extremes
of humans living on earth. In this episode, he finds this
in a scientist who built a "Jungle Airship" to
observe animals in a rainforest in South America. The mini-zeppelin
is beautiful, the filming is beautiful, and so is Mark Anthony.
If you saw Grizzly
Man and missed The White Diamond (2004),
come see a companion piece of equal worth. We'll show Grizzly
Man next month. Both are already available on DVD for
holiday giftgiving. Duration: 90 minutes
admission: FREE no reservations necessary, except for parties of
8 or more.
