This is a dance throw-down of epic import. So much and so
little is at stake. Rize
(2005) is a thrilling documentary by the artist David LaChappelle.
It charts the convergence of several street dance movements
in South Central Los Angeles in the late-90s and early-00s.
Paris is Burning (1990), directed by Jennie Livingston,
charted a similar moment in the early-90s. Arising from
the Drag Queen style mavens at Harlem's House of Labeija,
House of Xtravaganza, and House of Ninja, as well as other
NYC clubs, striking a pose received its 15 minutes. And
it would die in the spotlight soon after Madonna sung those
fatal words, "let's get to it...Vogue!"

W.A.D.D.: The Life of John C. Holmes vs. Johnny Wadd
The documentary of a Porn Star and one of his seminal roles
8:00pm W.A.D.D audio 10:00pm W.A.D.D audio
Remember Boogie Nights? Now you can see two films
about and starring John C. Holmes, the massive porn star
whose life inspired Paul Thomas Anderson's film and Markie
Mark's (excuse me, Mark Wahlberg's) performance. The documentary,
W.A.D.D.:
The Life of John C. Holmes (1998), traces the
bizarre life of a tall man from Ohio whose big dick led
him to porn riches and a tragic death from AIDS. It includes
interviews with Paul Thomas Anderson, Larry Flynt, Ron Jeremy,
and Candida Royale.
The documentary will be tastefully paired with one of the
films from Mr. Holmes' Johnny Wadd detective series. Either
the original Johnny
Wadd (1971), Tell
Them Johnny Wadd is Here (1975), or Around
the World with Johnny Wadd (1975). We'll surprise
you. Each film is very hardcore. Dinner will be served as
usual.
