4FiveVi
Is an innovative ensemble that explores the intersection of improvised and composed music. The group performs creative music from diverse traditions and works with techniques integrating improvisation with written music and other artistic mediums. Among these is the use of Soundpainting, a conducting language for improvisation utilizing over 700 gestures. Soundpainting is a live composing sign language for performers of any discipline and visual artists working in the medium of structured improvisation.

Through their innovative activities with film, video, and visual art, 4FiveVi  works at the forefront of projects integrating visual and sound media. These include the collaborative creation and performance of original music with extraordinary films of the silent era and groundbreaking films and videography by contemporary directors. At a 4FiveVi show, the audience can expect to hear and see a kaleidoscope of material; early films of the european avant-garde, pre-code american cartoons, rarely-seen animation from the Soviet-era, computer and stop-action films from contemporary filmmakers, industrial training films, and creations by famed filmmakers such as Jan Svankmajer and the Quay Brothers.

Currently the group has been exploring the creation of live interactive video collaboration using new live video manipulation software with video artist Tyler Kinney. The creative possibilities of this process in combination with techniques such as Soundpainting make these collaborations very exciting.
