Huddled around a roughly geometric sound and a tendency toward
improvisation, Capital M, Adam Caine,
and Va Va China represent three different takes
on improvised music.
Capital M seeks real and total integration between
modern classical music and vernacular styles such as rock and
jazz, whether it’s concept pieces by the likes of Frederic
Rzewski, collective free improvisations, or music written especially
for the group by outside composers.
"He's clearly his own man and one to watch." proclaims
Time Out New York after being "blindsided" by Adam
Caine, a guitarist and composer primarily interested
in jazz and improvised music. His solo performance will bridge
the poles between Capital M and Va Va China.
Va Va China's all-improvised shows incorporate
elements of free improvisation, electronica, and rock. Free improvisation's
notion of spontaneous composition unites electronica's cavernous
ambience and blocky, distorted rhythms and rock's energy and appetite
for rebellion.
Projectionist Fictive will continue the theme of improvisation
with his visuals, accompanying them with live video mixing and
manipulation on multiple screens.
Fictive is the visual mastermind behind the wildly
popular Basement Bhangra at S.O.B.'s and the Bollywood Disco at
the Canal Room with DJ Rekha.
