the brooklyn-based musical collective Jaggery returns from tour
tonight for two sets of their unflinchingly unique and arty pop
songs. think of a more classical, organic, avant-jazz oriented
Cocteau Twin's, or a "white witch" counter to the haunting
Diamanda Galas, and you might get the idea. "one of the most
beautiful voices in modern music" is how front-woman mali
sastri has been described, and tonight she will be flanked by
her upright bassist, celtic harp player, and cahon-seated drummer
versed in African groove and breakbeat. expect dreamy lullabies,
furious, mixed-meter rants, tightly-woven, classically-tinged
compositions in odd-time signatures, and catharsis-inducing, barn-burning
mini-epics ~ sometimes within the same song.
