The
Synchronism Project presents a screening of Man
with the Movie Camera (1929) by Dziga Vertov
with a unique live accompaniment. The formal structure of the
piece exactly matches the editing scheme of the film with meticulous
and exacting detail. With one-note-per-cut compositional strategies,
the audience gets to "listen" to the editing of the
film as well as see it. Accompanying the synchrony of the main
vibraphone solo are other live instrumentalists who each play
drone material in different time structures. The solo vibraphone
score was written and will be performed by Ross Karre
from San Diego's redfishbluefish percussion group. Accompanying
him will be New York locals such as Kevin Sims,
Mike Gallope, and Amie Weiss.
