In Summer of 2004, Seattle filmmaker Jason Ryan was hired to clean out an abandoned
apartment and was told to haul all of the old tenent's belongings to the dump.
Among the boxes of dusty paperbacks and vinyl records, there sat a large box
of photographic slides, photo albums, negatives and contact sheets and on a
shelf sat 11 90 minute audio cassettes containing various field recordings
made by the man from all over the world over a 30 year period. "The Kodachrome
Memoirs" is the presentation of these items from Jason Ryan and Brooklyn
based filmmaker and visual artist Nelson Harst. Also screening will be the
East Coast premiere of Jason Ryan's new in-progress feature 16mm film, "Ugly
(Is a Movie)" featuring performances from Sam Suver and Amber Hubert ("We
Go Way Back") and music by Akron/Family and Doomsday 1999. Brooklyn musician
Brittain Ashford opens the show with a short set.
