Marc Lafia will present a selection of 51 'open and variable'
films for projection. For a couple of years he has been working
on this series of films, entitled Computations / Permutations,
wherein he attempts to define internal relations and rhythms for
these films with use of a small set of photographs and algorithmic
rules for the generation of their sound, velocity and order.
For Marc Lafia, computation and algorithmic procedures allow for
the production of new structures of organizing image and information,
new ways of distributing affects and emotions. In his work the
image is not a representation or a record of an event: it is an
event itself, an entire mode of going. His Computations /
Permutations project is an ongoing exploration into the limits
of the image.
