The
World Without Magic has released their debut EP on
the band's own
label, FunFact Records. This effort finds the band racing out
of the
gate with a rich, fully-realized sound that blends the somber,
grand
scope of The Cure and Bowie with a more intimate, songwriter-ly
approach.
Rooster
has gained much acclaim in the Midwest and beyond for their
fractured, haunted songs and frenetic live show. You can tell
they've
studied the same folks as the Animal Collective
and Neutral Milk Hotel – Robert Wyatt,
Sid Barret, Tiny Tim – while managing to create a spine-tingling
sound all their own.
Jon Wiley is a veteran of the New York scene,
known for developing
studio and live arrangements for a lot of bands you've heard of.
Here, he showcases his own gentle, melancholy songs that recall
something of Neil Young or Jeff Buckley.
It's direct, nuanced
songwriting at its best.
The Monkey Town show brings together friends and collaborators
(they've all worked together, and Joseph and David Bower from
Rooster are brothers to Patrick from TWWM) for a night of fun
and rock 'n roll that will go down in Brooklyn history.
