Come along for a night of the adventures of the outward and inward
bound as they search for mental health and happiness. Explore
your feelings while watching video visitations to the wildernesses
of the mind...Are you prepared?
Ideas about nature seem naturally related to ideas about survival.
Survival, as it’s depicted in movies and TV shows, often
seems like a black and white proposition; either you win or lose,
live or die. Yet, personal experiences of survival are far more
complex. Each day of our lives is an intricate journey that is
equal parts "Lewis and Clark Expedition" and Donner
Party."
The videos featured in "Neurotic Naturalism," all set
in various personalized and contrived naturalistic scenarios,
share a collective idealist association with nature - a longing
for simplicity, retreat and revelation. Yet removed from the clutter
of civilization, nature puts our inner and outer struggles in
even starker contrast. The desperado-depressive-weirdo heroes
and heroines in these tales set in or near the call of the wild,
find themselves faced with all the same psychological problems
and struggles of the human condition that occur elsewhere: anxiety,
failure, paranoia, and alienation. As someone once said, "Wherever
you go, there you are." But, then again, "Whatever doesn’t
kill you makes you stronger."
