Sawako will be highlighting this evening with two live sets to usher in the release of her Madoromi album on Anticipate (released October 15). Performing both the music and visuals for one of her performances, and playing the other alongside visuals by Nobuko Hori, she will be re-working the material from the album, which gorgeously processes acoustic instrumentation and her softly whispered voice alongside DSP and unfurling, warm electronics.
Nobuko Hori designed the cover of "North Valley Subconscious Orchestra" (Ghostly International) by Christopher Willits & Brad Laner, participated in Ryuichi Sakamoto's Stop-Rokkasho.org and will release her first CD album on Music Related in late 2007.
David Letellier aka Kangding Ray, released his first album on Raster Noton, and while his sound definitely retains a sparse, rhythm-laden aesthetic, it also brings in more overtly melodic sensibilities that involve hooks and pop elements, albeit in a subdued, 23rd century sense of those terms.
The opening set of the evening pairs label head Ezekiel Honig with the visual work of Joshue Ott and his superDraw software. As the performance relationship of Honig and Ott develops, they become a more unified whole of melodic, acoustic-tinged slowmotion techno and spacey, yet concretely manipulated digital drawing.
