Original silent film Yamabushi
will premiere alongside live performances
delivered by the band Spielerfrau.
The collaboration is an experiment in
combining film and music in a way not offered by either traditional
film, in which music is scored to support visuals, or by MTV cookie-cutter
music videos, which formats images to mirror sound. The intent
of the project is to allow both the film and the music to exist
independently while simultaneously heightening one another through
random areas of visual and audio concordance and discord.
The film is very stylized, somewhat noir, and overlooks absolutely
no detail of otherworldly fashion; in the tradition of silent
film it’s completion requires music. Spielerfrau’s
sound, described by the New Yorker as a mix of "heartfelt
rock with intelligent lyrics full of Eastern European black humor
and irony" will complete the monsterpiece.
We can't wait to see it either.
