Thai Tuesdays concludes
this month with four films that have received little or no exposure
in the United States.
One of those four films, Citizen
Dog, will be shown on Thai Mondays,
June 12 and June 19. Do
not miss this film. Even without subtitles, it is unlike
any film you've ever seen. And it's never been screened in the
States (as far as we know).
Thai Tuesdays is our small contribution to getting you beat a
path to the Lincoln
Center Festival for their staging of Ramakien:
A Rak Opera (July 28, 29, and 30), directed
by Rirkrit Tiravanija with contributions from
Sek Loso, Modern Dog, Pru,
Palmy and many others.

Wisit Sasanatieng's Tears
of the Black Tiger is a hyper-stylized half-parody,
half-homage to Westerns and romance films. Before you see Citizen
Dog, see this one with the subtitles to prepare yourself.
If you like your humor on rye, Sasanatieng is your man.

Fake
is a film about the romantic lives of three male flatmates
- with the girl in each case played by the same actress. And Bangkok
looks like the hippest city on the planet.

2499
is a Thai West Side Story. Dircetor Nonzee Nimibutr
"recreates the life of a notorious late-1950s gangster. Dang
Bireley's (nicknamed after his favorite soda-pop) had Elvis and
James Dean fixations and lived predictably fast and died predictably
young. He first killed a man at the age of 13, and became famous
in Phra Nakorn as a Chinese protection racketeer from the age
of 18. Everything swung his way until a coups d'etat imposed martial
law and drove the city's gangsters up-country. Dang and his loyal
cohort Piak had little trouble facing down the local hicks, but
bristled when forced to operate a long side their arch-enemy Pu,
known as Bottle-Bomb."
