Christina
Vantzou is an artist based in Brussels, Belgium.
She has been drawing for as long as she can remember. Over time,
her drawings have evolved into animations and abstract videos.
In recent years, Christina has been active in projects encompassing
fine art, illustration, graphic design, motion graphics, video,
animation, and music. Recent commercial work has included creating
a TV identity and title design for Mtv Netherlands, and a making
a promotional video for the band Interpol. She also enjoys the
luxury of devoting time to her own various projects. In 2004,
Christina Vantzou began an audiovisual collaboration with composer
Adam Wiltzie under the name, The
Dead Texan. Together they released a cd and dvd containing
dreamy little videos which are blissfully synchronized to ambient,
classically-inspired music. The Dead Texan conducted a series
of live performances across Europe throughout 2005 and are currently
working on a follow up cd/dvd release on Kranky Records.
For Monkey Town, Christina has designed a 4 channel video installation
pairing hand drawn artwork animated frame by frame with abstract
video backgrounds. The piece stems from a growing collection of
nature imagery around Christina’s studio and a longing for
Spring. Inspired by the aesthetics of traditional Japanese screen
painting, Christina has assembled a series of videos that form
a panoramic landscape and is enhanced by subtle animation, color,
and sounds.
